Workshops offered by Streetlytes
Liberation Theology was borne out of a Christian Mission to bring justice to the poor and oppressed by putting into action the principles set forth by Jesus Christ, please refer Luke 4:18-19 KVJ, which reads, “The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, To set at liberty those who oppressed; To proclaim the acceptable year of the lord.” (King James Version)
Liberation Theology is based on exercising Christian faith through social justice for everyone and advocates for those concerned within the statutory laws of society. Social justice is about the equal and fair distribution of social values and advocates that everyone is equal. This definition is focal point of Christian principles.
Streetlytes-UK is one of the many voices of Christian action in the field of housing and homelessness and which believes that human dignity is challenged by the lack of decent housing and issues of homelessness and advocates social justice for the poor and marginalized.
Our Mission Statement engages social justice with regard to our beneficiaries by working in coordination within the community sector and establishing working professional partnerships with building-based resource organizations who are actively involved in the holistic recovery of the homeless and vulnerable, and, to collectively galvanize these vital resources to improve their quality of care and social benefit. This also includes working with Christian churches, forums like-minded organizations.
Whilst the majority of beneficiaries of Streetlytes-UK are predominantly homeless, poor and vulnerable, our advancement of Christian Faith through Liberation Theology is not preferential. Our advancement of the Christian Faith is available to everyone and anyone regardless of status, class, creed, religion, race, gender or culture and is not narrow in its scope and is all inclusive as encompassed in our beliefs.
Streetlytes-UK - What We Believe
- It is impossible to love God, whom we’ve never seen and hate our brothers and sisters whom we see every day. -1st John 4:20
- We are an affirming Street Outreach Ministry and believe that God’s love is for everyone, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity or previous religious affiliation.
- We believe that God’s love is universal and in order to practice Love, we must be involved in the affairs of society, advocating for social justice and providing for all according to their individual needs.
- We believe the Jesus Christ is the Son of God.
- We believe in the teachings for Jesus but we do not dismiss other faiths and beliefs as wrong or second to our way of believing.
- We believe God is neither male nor female but is a spirit and as a spirit, God has no gender.
- We believe that God is everywhere present and is greater than any religion denomination or school of thought.
- We believe in the liberating power of the gifts that come through God’s Holy Spirit.
- We believe the Bible and all great Spiritual writings or guides must be read, taking into consideration the time of the writing, the traditions practiced at that time, and the fact that we have the right to question and examine all interpretations. Enlightenment and revelation are continuous and did not stop with the Bible writers.
- We believe that a person’s belief system must be supportive of the HEALTHY SELF ACCEPTANCE; support SPIRITUAL GROWTH; and ENCOURAGE PHYSICAL, PSYCHIC and MENTAL HEALTH.
- We believe it is impossible to love each other without a sense of mutual (equal) worth and respect for each other.
- God Is Love and Love Is For Everyone!
